Adult Ministries
blood pressure
Blood pressure checks are offered monthly on Sunday mornings following the service.

The Adult Education Program of First Reformed Church is developed to build servants of Jesus Christ.  It is based on the truth that God is working in the lives of all people to refine and complete their spiritual growth.  At no time in a person’s life have they “arrived” at spiritual maturity.  Living for God and becoming a servant of Christ is a daily commitment to live moment by moment for God’s glory.  In order to accomplish this life-long goal, all adults are encouraged to continue learning about and experiencing Christ through Adult Education classes held in our church.

Adult Sunday School

Adult Sunday School classes are held after coffee fellowship following morning worship services.  The time for these classes is from 11-11:45 a.m. Sunday morning. Adult Education classes typically follow a two-semester format, with new classes beginning in September and January. All adult classes conclude in May.  A Bible Study based on the Sunday School Guide is an ongoing class that is held from September to May every year.  Topics for other classes vary each semester depending on the topics chosen by the adult facilitators of each class.  All classes are based on the truths of the Bible and seek to build servants of Jesus Christ in all areas of a person’s life.  Information about upcoming classes is available in the church newsletter and bulletin several weeks before the classes begin.

Adult education

Adult Education is offered on Wednesday nights from 7- 8 p.m. during the Family Night activities and Sunday mornings for adults of all ages.

Weekly Prayer Meeting

A weekly prayer meeting Wednesdays at 7 p.m. is an ongoing opportunity for all adults in the church to meet for a focused prayer time.  The prayer ministry also allows members to be notified by email or the prayer line of prayer requests throughout the week.

Small group ministry

Small Group Ministry and Bible Studies are a great way to help you feel at home in a large church.  Small groups offer the opportunity to get to know others, develop friendships and become a small community where people fellowship together in the study of God's word and support one another in life's journey. These opportunities are published in The Focus.

Suppers 8

Suppers Eight is an opportunity offered in January of each year.  All who sign up (couples and/or singles) are put into groups of eight people who get together for meals four times throughout the year at each others homes.

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a group for mothers of preschoolers and their children.  MOPS is coordinated by the participating mothers, offering a Christian atmosphere where specific and significant needs of today's preschool mothers are met.  The mothers meet in small groups where women interact, encourage and learn from one another.  It also provides a comfortable setting to become personally acquainted with Jesus Christ.

Women's Ministries

Women's Ministries seeks to encourage the women of our congregation to glorify God by growing spiritually through Bible Study, memorization, and prayer, discovering our spiritual gifts, and utilizing these gifts in service, outreach, fun, and fellowship. We provice service through workgroups (serving funerals, weddings, and anniversaries, mission projects, service projects (local and worldwide), special offerings, nursery volunteers, flower committee, Children in Covenant program, new moms outreach, quilters (every Monday work on quilts for missions) and The Gift of a Meal Program.

For outreach, fun and fellowship, we have retreats every even year, Mother/Daughter Banquets, CARES program (Caring for Elderly Sweethearts) and a Good Friday Morning Breakfast.

Women's Ministries has circles that meet monthly for Bible study and fellowship.

For a women's ministries booklet with details about each circle and the women who make up each group, contact a Women's Ministries team member: Tricia (Mark) Vermeer, Laura (Glen) Sneller, Tonie (Dale) Woudstra, Anne (Scott) Gray, and Jane (Galen) Ver Steeg.

Quilters
Care Quilters

Care Quilters

Care Quilters are women who enjoy quilt making who get together every Monday during the school year at 1 p.m. in the Fireside Room.  They set up tables for stretching and tying the quilts, while other women sew the cut blocks together and hem the quilts that have been tied.  They enjoy the sewing time, as well as a coffeebreak with homemade goodies!

Quilts have been donated to the Sioux Center Community Hospital, the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls; a mission in Cary, Mississippi; Union Gospel Mission in Sioux City; Lighthouse Church in Des Moines; the Red Cross; an AIDS Center; and Fort Washington in Pennsylvania.  The ladies say they seldom see any of the quilts once they leave the church, but their joy is in making them and sending them out to warm and bless others.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawl Ministry gives comfort and hope to hurting people through the gift of a hand knit or crocheted prayer shawl. As the shawl is stitched, the person making the shawl prays for the intended recipient. After completion the shawl is lovingly presented to someone in need, along with a note expressing love and concern and explaining that they are being lifted up in prayer.

You may participate in this ministry by

  1. knitting or crocheting a shawl;
  2. donating yarn and other materials;
  3. delivering materials to crafters or completed shawls to recipients;
  4. praying for recipients.
